IBARMIA has introduced the STAR MULTIPROCESS, a new machine tool designed to combine milling and turning capabilities within a single machining solution.
The company positions the machine for components that require more than conventional milling or turning alone. Examples cited include complex shafts featuring cylindrical surfaces, milled features and precision holes, which can otherwise require several machines and multiple workpiece setups.
According to IBARMIA, bringing different operations together in one machine can reduce the need to repeatedly reposition and clamp a component. The company says this approach offers greater precision potential by limiting errors associated with multiple clamping operations.
The STAR MULTIPROCESS is also intended to provide flexibility across a range of part types. IBARMIA says the machine can be adapted for cylindrical components as well as complex prismatic parts, accommodating differing geometries, sizes and machining requirements.
IBARMIA has described the new offering as powerful, fast and flexible, with the latest version adding a new turning capability. The company has not reported numerical production, accuracy, cycle-time or operating-hour results in the announcement.
